Feeding an addiction @ Gorski and Jones

Hello, my name is Amy Collins and I have a smashed avocado addiction. Every time I go out for breakfast or brunch I really struggle to go past the avocado on toast option, however it comes. I am a happy brunchgoer when it includes feta. It is my belief that avocado and feta together equals greatness.

Before I go on, I should tell you that this particular morning, I was brunching at Gorski and Jones on Smith Street in Collingwood. It was a sunny Saturday morning and we scored a table in their inside courtyard type set up out the back. With windows all around to make it feel like you are outside, it was lovely.

Their menu is not your average Melbourne brunch spread. It has a beautiful Italian influence resulting in dishes like the Italian workers, prosciutto, pecorino, hard boiled egg, fresh tomato and Sicilian olives ($16.5).

I, no surprises here, ordered the crushed avocado with tomato, Persian feta, dukkah and lemon on sourdough ($14).

It was one of the best avocado breakfasts I have had in a while.  There were generous cubes of feta dotted around the creamy avocado and the lemon and dukkah added crunch and lovely flavour.

My brunching partner went for a more Italian inspired option with the Buffalo soldiers: buffalo mozzarella, prosciutto, tomato sugo and pesto soldiers, with a poached egg added to it ($16.5 + egg).

She loved this dish, but mentioned it was quite a hearty breakfast option so was glad it was later in the day.

The coffee and the service were both wonderful, and I am very keen to head back to try more of the breakfast options and their loved dinner menu.

  1. One of my favourite places in the whole of Melbourne. Must go and try for breakfast – didn’t know they did it…

  2. I’d have ordered the avo too. Usually a winner! Hope you had a Merry Chirstmas and Happy New Year gorgeous 😀 xo
